Less than a month after The Hunger Games director Gary Ross revealed he would not be filming the sequel Catching Fire, a new director has been revealed.
Water For Elephants and I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence is Lionsgate’s official pick to replace Ross, who turned down the project due to its tight production schedule. Lawrence has been offered the job, but has not accepted yet.
Lawrence beat out a list of high-profile names, including Moneyball director Bennett Miller. Other candidates to direct the sequel were David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method), Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy), Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu (Babel), and Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre).
