Lisa Kudrow’s feather-tressed has-been sitcom star Valerie Cherish pioneered reality-TV-humiliation-as-career-move in 2005 on The Comeback, years before we were keeping up with clan Kardashian. A decade later, she has a new “comeback” project (Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO Canada), and she’s filming every cringey moment for an accompanying reality show, including her (unsuccessful) attempts to work the paparazzi into a fervour and her boasts about her 800-something Twitter followers. The excruciating satire hits so close to home (specifically, Tori Spelling’s home) that it’s squirm-inducing—and impossible to miss.
