Mel B Says The Spice Girls Reunion *IS* Happening

We really, really, really want to believe her.

TBH, the will-they-won’t-they 2018 Spice Girls reunion tour has left me feeling like a “Wannabe”: It seems as though we all really, really, really want it to happen, but thus far, it has yet to actually…be. But “Stop Right Now”! Mel B just said the group *still* plans to tour and that the Spice Girls will perform together again in the very near future.

While co-hosting The Today Show with Hoda Kotb, Mel B promised that 2 (dreams and reality) really will become 1. “We are touring!” she told Hoda, who then very gently reminded her that Victoria Beckham recently said in a British Vogue interview that the tour was never happening. Direct quote from VB: “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour”.

“She’s always bloody saying that,” Mel B said to Kotb in response to Beckham’s comments. “Yes, we are going to be doing performances together for sure.”

Cue fans losing their minds on social media:

As much as we really, really, really want to believe Mel B, we can’t help but be a bit hesitant. Forgive the BSB reference, but we worry that, as with the Royal Wedding, Scary Spice may be playing games with our hearts again. After all, she’s the one who “confirmed” that all of the Spice Girls had been invited to Meg and Harry’s Big Day, which we the Internet read as an official announcement that the iconic pop quintet were going to perform. Then, on May 19, not only did Meghan Markle not walk up the aisle to “Spice Up Your Life,” but the Spice Girls didn’t perform at the reception and (somewhat appropriately) Posh Spice was the only band member spotted even in the vicinity of Windsor Castle.

The Spice Girls reunion tour, of course, has never *actually* been confirmed or announced, despite rumours from outlets like The Daily Mail that concerts were set to start this September, and that the women were going to make upwards of £30 million (roughly $52 million Canadian) EACH to lace up their platform shoes again. In terms of a reunion, all that we have for now is this image the squad shared back in February, posted to Emma “Baby” Bunton’s Insta.

Great catch up with my girls! #bffs always the future is looking spicy!

In that same interview with British Vogue, Beckham commented that the recent meeting at Geri Halliwell’s house was just “brainstorming” and that while there were no immediate plans, she wasn’t entirely opposed to the idea of the group reuniting. “What does that look like in the future?” Beckham told the fashion mag. “Well, it’s not me in a catsuit.”

So what’s a Spice fan to think? Well, in the words of “Viva Forever”: “I’ll be waiting / Everlasting like the sun”. And if it happens? Oh you know I’ll be there.
