When singers, actors or models decide to add fashion designer to their repertoire, they’re bound to get a mixed reaction. Sometimes celebrities fail—think Lindsay Lohan’s design debut with Ungaro—but sometimes, they surprise us all (Alexa Chung for Madewell, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony). This past February, pop culture juggernaut Rihanna and her co-designer, Adam Selman, debuted their first women’s line for River Island at London Fashion Week. While the runway show garnered mixed reviews by critics, when the line actually hit stores in March girls wanted in on the belly-bearing tops and floral bottoms, making the collection a commercial success. Now Rihanna is working on the fall/winter collection (revealed on Instagram several weeks ago) and her new video showcases the making of the collection with the singer actively involved in the design process. “I just wanted stuff that I wanted to wear,” she says. Succinct. She’s been seen on numerous social media accounts sporting her own designs and we love her unconventional style—note the line’s tie-dyed jumpsuit—and that she’s keen on florals, calling the pattern “timeless.”
If you need even more Rihanna in your life, the songstress has also collaborated with M.A.C Cosmetics on RiRi Hearts M.A.C, which will launch four collections throughout this year. Her RiRi Woo lipstick. which hit shelves a couple weeks ago, sold out in three hours, so you’ll have to wait until June to get your hands on more of the trend-setter’s beauty wares. The six-time Grammy winner is also currently on a world tour—she hit Toronto back in March—and you can see her in theatres this June in the comedy This Is the End, also starring Seth Rogen. Find out if she adds more accolades to her trophy room this weekend at the Billboard Awards, where she’s nominated for 10, including Top Artist.
