Director Darren Aronofsky’s latest film, Black Swan, about two rival ballerinas played by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, is a much more sinister take on the classic Swan Lake. Reportedly, after watching the famous ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia, Aronofsky—the director of such dark classics as Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler—was stunned by the production’s happy ending. “Needless to say my film’s ending isn’t so bright,” he said in an interview to The Moscow Times. When it comes to conveying the mood he’s after, he’s turned to the Rodarte sisters to design the film’s costumes.—Olga Bran
