Is there a celebrity more down-to-earth than Rachel McAdams? She’s regularly spotted riding her bike, taking the subway, or attending knife skills classes in her Toronto neighbourhood. This past weekend, Canada’s sweetheart-next-door threw in her lot with the 99 per cent at Occupy Bay Street, the Torontonian offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. (Marches took place in over a dozen Canadian cities on Saturday, including Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal.) Unsuccessfully concealed under the hood of a black windbreaker, the actress joined political activists gathered in St. James Park to protest corporate greed and the unequal distribution of wealth. A handful of celebrities—Susan Sarandon, Penn Badgley, and Alex Baldwin, to name a few—have already expressed their support for the movement in New York, but McAdams is one of the few homegrown stars (besides Our Lady Peace’s Raine Maida) to let her political stripes show. We’re not sure who’s next, but our money’s on Gosling. -Allison Friedman
