Forget Occupy Wall Street: the biggest injustice of the past week has been the election of Bradley Cooper as People’s Sexiest Man Alive over Canuck heartthrob Ryan Gosling. Around a dozen protesters took to the streets outside the magazine’s New York headquarters yesterday, waving signs (“RYAN GOSLING GAVE ME THE COURAGE TO WEAR THIS JACKET”) and chanting rhyming slogans like, “Bradley Cooper is just fine, but Ryan Gosling is divine.” The demonstration was organized by viral clickables website Buzzfeed, which drafted an online petition declaring that, “2011 was clearly the Year of the Gosling.” The site was also responsible for the cut-out Gosling masks that protesters wore.

People executive editor Liz Sporkin was forced to issue a statement defending the magazine’s choice. “Bradley Cooper is the whole package,” she wrote. “He’s gorgeous, talented, brainy, loves his mom, and speaks fluent French.” But Liz, has Bradley Cooper gone out of his way to break up a street fight? Inspired a brilliant meme? We don’t want to get political or anything, but we’re definitely with the 99% on this one. -Allison Friedman
