Kristen is a big fan of “anything and everything motown!”— fitting for our ’70s-inspired shoot
When: October 6
Where: Los Angeles
With a new movie (Frozen), new TV season (House of Lies), new baby and soon-to-be-new husband (fellow actor Dax Shepard), it’s no wonder Kristen Bell was glowing when she arrived on set, sporting a ponytail and the dark denim–sleek boot combo that never fails. On set, the humanitarian—exhibit A, the Feed bag she was toting, whose profits support the UN World Food Program—and veteran vegan snacked on avocado on toast and zucchini “pasta” with pesto. Makeup artist Rachel Goodwin transformed the Neutrogena Naturals brand ambassador into a ’70s siren. Between takes, Bell dropped punch lines and the occasional dance move; you’d never guess it was her first time working with photographer Yu Tsai. She was also keen to explore the ramshackle mansion where the shoot took place, and was delighted by a surprise visit from Shepard and five-month-old daughter Lincoln. (The couple tied the knot 11 days later!) After the shoot, she beat it back home to make little Lincoln’s bedtime.

Kristen calls her style “comfy,” but she looked entirely at ease (and entirely gorgeous) in an art deco–inspired Vionnet gown and Sebastian Milano heels
