Natalie Portman’s Oscar gown is officially off the market (much like the star herself, though unofficially). An unnamed British collector has purchased the 1954 Christian Dior couture gown online for $50,000 from New York’s Rare Vintage.
Of the strapless red frock, Portman’s stylist, Kate Young, told Into The Gloss “We borrowed it – she was actually going to wear another dress but then I got a call from the woman at Rare Vintage and she was like, ‘You should see this dress for Natalie.’ So we went and she put it on, and it needed zero alterations, and Natalie was like, ‘This was meant to be, wasn’t it?’ And I said, ‘I guess it was.’”
The Oscar-winning actress, who presented this year’s Best Actor trophy, appeared on nearly every list of the evening’s best-dressed stars, including our own. Portman is also the face of Miss Dior Chérie fragrance, so many speculated that she would wear a gown from the famous Parisian fashion house. The vintage option was a red carpet-stealing surprise.
