Lana Del Rey’s had a chaotic few months–rising to fame on YouTube, Del Rey’s first album, Born To Die, has been praised as much as its been criticized, with some music critics panning her as a mediocre talent in a slickly marketed package. While the music world is still making up their minds about the singer, the fashion world is far less conflicted.
The London label, Mulberry, has dedicated its latest bag to the singer. It is the first time the brand has dedicated one of its bags to a celebrity since launching its best-selling Alexa satchel, named after Alexa Chung, in 2009.
The bag is inspired by the crooner’s signature retro look. ”I love the design,” Del Rey said in a recent interview. “It’s a perfect mix between old school Hollywood and contemporary style. It’s an honour that such a classic and prestigious brand would name a bag after me.”
The “Video Games” singer was seen at the Mulberry Fall 2012 runway show during London Fashion Week on Sunday, February 19. She held her Mulberry Del Ray bag in White Ostrich proudly on her lap as she watched the catwalk.
Sitting with the singer at the show was rapper Azealia Banks. The two are rumoured to be working on a song together. Considering the dramatically different musical styles of the melancholic singer and the aggressive rapper, one thing is for sure: love them or hate them, this track will be a must hear.–Erin Fitzsimmons
