How is this for a dynamic duo–Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts will team up for the screen adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play August: Osage County.
This is the first time the Oscar-winning actresses will appear on-screen together. Streep, who is nominated for an Oscar for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, has been cast as the pill-popping matriarch Violet Weston, and Roberts, who plays the Evil Queen in next month’s Mirror Mirror, will play her complicated adult daughter Barbara.
“After seeing Meryl Streep’s mesmerizing portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, it has me even more excited and proud to co-star with her,” Roberts said in a statement. Streep is still collecting awards for The Iron Lady and will vie for Best Actress at the Oscars on Sunday, February 26.–Erin Fitzsimmons
August: Osage County is set for release in 2013.
