On Set With FLARE’s July Cover Star Lucy Hale

On set in Runyon Canyon Park, Los Angeles

Fresh after a rare day off from filming the addictive, age-transcending teen drama Pretty Little Liars (in which she plays unlucky-in love Aria Montgomery), Lucy Hale surprised the FLARE crew by arriving on set early, dressed in a tank top, shorts and a wide-brimmed hat and carrying a black quilted Chanel CC Crown tote. Engaging and friendly, our cover star was excited to shoot at Runyon Canyon Park and don the haute-country wardrobe, which included designs by Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors. At Lucy’s request, Brit indie-rock group Alt-J played in the background to get the day started, while a switch to Stevie Nicks helped set the tone for her change into a ’70s-inspired Valentino fringed dress (her favourite look from the shoot). Jason Kim wasn’t the only one to photograph Lucy that day; she gamely stopped to take a picture with a fan before getting back into character for FLARE. Despite the scorching temp — 32°C! Lucy never wilted, finishing the shoot in the same high spirits in which she arrived.
