You know when your dad butchers the name of every celeb you love? Or hell, even every person you love? (My own beloved pops called by boyfriend Justin for the first, oh, four years of our relationship. His name is Dustin.) Well, British rocker Liam Gallagher—yes, the same Oasis lead singer and guitarist whose previous reputation revolved largely around brawling in clubs and feuding with his brother and bandmate Noel—just referred to A$AP Rocky as “WhatsApp Ricky” in an interview with British GQ so we can all go home.
they say no news is good news but today i heard that liam gallagher genuinely thinks A$AP rocky’s name is whatsapp ricky

In a sit down with the magazine, the September cover star spoke about the music his own kids love (he has four children, BTW), saying, “My kids f***ing love grime music. Stormzy, Skepta—he seems pretty mad. I like him. They also like that bloke, WhatsApp Ricky. You know, the American geezer, stylish, funny, gold teeth… ” After the interviewer asked if he meant A$AP Rocky, he replied: “Oh yeah, that’s the fella. WhatsApp Ricky, that’s a better f***ing name anyway.” (Side note: can’t say I disagree.)
But Liam Gallagher is nothing if not expertly snarky, which leads me to this question: should we just start calling him dad or is he actually a master of deep, deep shade? Let’s explore.
I mean, maybe that is a genuine compliment coming from Gallagher but in my world, that’s Mariah-level shade, honey.
These two cannot stop tossing burns at one another so this was more immature bro-bashing than subtle shade.
Exhibit C: When he called his own bro a “sad f-ck” for not showing up to the One Love Manchester concert
But then Coldplay’s Chris Martin threw the shade right back, saying everyone knew in advance that Noel couldn’t be there.
Verdict: Shady but inconclusive
Maybe’s Liam’s the ultimate shade-throwing troll, maybe he really is a dorky dad who will forever refer to your fave singers as Bruno Stars and Dustin Timbersteak. Or maybe he’s just a bit of a jerk. Either way, we’re 100 percent here for it. Also, do we predict a WhatsApp Ricky and Liam Gallagher collabo in the future? After all, it wouldn’t the first time the rapper made music with a geriatric British rockstar and it somehow worked.
