Katniss Everdeen may be torn between studly Gale and sweetheart Peeta in The Hunger Games, but at least Lionsgate knows how to make a decision about their boys.

The studio announced on Monday that they cast 21-year-old Liam Hemsworth (left), Miley Cyrus’s on and off-screen love interest from The Last Song, as Gale. Meanwhile, Team Peeta will root for 18-year-old Josh Hutcherson, who worked the awards-show circuit this winter with The Kids Are All Right.

Both actors were up for high-profile superhero roles this year. Hemsworth auditioned for the lead in Thor (the role went to his brother Chris) while Hutcherson was the odds-on favourite to don the red cowl in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot before Andrew Garfield swung in to nab the role.

The actors will join 20-year-old Jennifer Lawrence, who was announced as the lead in The Hunger Games last month. The Oscar-nominated Lawrence has already had some practice with big-budget action. She stars as shape-shifting Mystique in June’s X-Men: First Class. With that kind of resume, her co-stars might want to watch out once she gets hold of Katniss’s bow.
