It’s almost too much twee to take: Justin Long has been booked for a three-episode arc on New Girl, Fox’s upcoming comedy about a lovably awkward 20something (Zooey Deschanel) who moves in with three single guys after a particularly humiliating break-up. Fed up with watching Deschanel’s Jess moping all over the couch, her new roommates clean her up and try to get her back on the dating horse. The show reminds us a little bit of another recent post-break-up comedy, ABC’s bubbly-funny Happy Endings (maybe just because both happen to star Damon Wayans Jr.?). In any case, it looks pretty charming.
In what promises to be one of the most endearing nerd romances on TV, Long will play Jess’s music teacher love interest. Remember him on Ed as Warren Cheswick, a hopelessly dorky high schooler with a massive crush on his English teacher? If Long’s New Girl character takes a page out of Warren’s book, his fling with Jess is bound to be truly “adorkable.”
