Juno Awards - Behind the Scenes with Tracy

Flare's Tracy Finklestein takes you behind the scenes at the 2006 Juno Awards!

Behind the Scenes
It’s now been a month since I returned from Halifax, and I think I have officially recovered from my first-ever Juno experience. Yes my friends, I was a Juno virgin… but no more! I have experienced all the craziness, and loved every minute of it. No matter where Elio Iannacci (our Sr. Features Editor) and I went, I had my trusty digital camera with me documenting the good, the bad, and the ugly. And so, I share with you photos from my Juno journey. – Tracy

Behind the Scenes
We are off! Elio looks ready as we wait at Pearson Int’l en route to Halifax. Sad to say, but neither of us had ever been east of Quebec City. Shame on us!

Behind the Scenes
Our first shoot of the weekend is with Canadian Idol Kalan Porter… in an elevator… that is still going up and down! I think it’s a little nuts, but this is truly a sign of what’s to come over the next four days.

Elio gets some downtime with our friends
from eTalk Daily.
Hey, Tanya — hand me some more Red Bull!

Kalan chats with Tanya Kim from eTalk Daily.

Don’t miss the full interview on eTalk Daily on

And we cannot forget the publicists who help
coordinate all this madness.
Say hi to Erica Silver from SONY/BMG.

Behind the Scenes
That’s Amanda Wilkinson, Juno nominee and all around great-gal. She had a quick chat with Tanya Kim from eTalk Daily before heading to the photo shoot.

< back
Behind the Scenes
Not only is Amanda totally adorable —
but, we’re (almost) the same height.
(Translation: we’re both quite ‘petite’)

Behind the Scenes
We’re off to the Juno Cup! Retired NHL’ers vs Canadian Rockers. There’s Kirk Muller on the right. I rode in the elevator with him, and I must say he looks pretty darn good for a retired hockey player.

Behind the Scenes
Here is “Team Rocker”
Jim Cuddy
, Alan Doyle, and some of the guys
from Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Theory of a Deadman
& Sloan.

Now, for all you people who think Elio and I get special treatment at events like the Juno Cup — have a look. There are no seats for media, so they put us in the penalty box!

Off the Record host Michael Landsberg
called the game from the sidelines.

And, the woman who MOST impressed me the entire weekend was opera singer Measha Brueggergosman, who strapped on the skates and hit the ice.
Hard to believe she got her unbelievable head of hair into the helmet!! You go girl.

Behind the Scenes
Saturday morning. It’s freezing in Halifax, and we are back to shooting at the Delta Halifax. I am sufficiently caffeinated and ready for the craziness that ensues during the Hedley shoot.

Behind the Scenes
Another one of our publicist friends…
Mima Aggozzino from Universal Music hangs out with Elio while we shoot Hedley.

< back
Behind the Scenes

Four of the nicest guys you will ever meet! We had such fun with Dave, Jacob, Chris, Tom from Hedley. They even had time for a quick interview with Sasha Tong, one of the producers at eTalk Daily.

You can see the entire interview on
eTalk Daily on May 9th – 7pm on CTV

If you haven’t heard Elevator, the latest CD from Hot Hot Heat — run (don’t walk) and buy it. I am hooked and cannot get their single ‘Middle of Nowhere’ out of my head!

< back
Behind the Scenes
And, oh yeah — they are also four very sweet guys who hung around and chatted with Elio and I for quite a while after the shoot was finished. And, they totally impressed me with their sense of style and exceptional knowledge of John Fluevog shoes.

Here’s the band, with their Warner Music publicist Jonathan Elder (lower left) checking out their shots on
Andrew’s computer.

Behind the Scenes
I discovered that you spend a lot of time waiting on other people when coordinating 14 photo shoots, so Elio and waited in the lobby… a lot! And, inevitably we bumped into friends — like pr gal Deb McCain who was in Halifax doing work for her client Moet & Chandon.

Behind the Scenes
More waiting around. Here I am looking a little worn out by day three of our shoots. It was cold and windy in Halifax, so my MTV Canada tuque (compliments of my good pal Christina Giamos) came in so handy.

Did you watch the Junos on April 2nd? Did you see Divine Brown sing?? If you didn’t, then you missed the standout performance of the evening. Here she is getting prepped for the Flare shot.

Absolutely beautiful. Look at the smile on Divine Brown! Here she is taking a break from her interview with Elio.

And, we cannot forget another one of our favourite music guys — Tyson Parker from Universal
(with Andrew McNaughton).
He helped us coordinate the Divine Brown shoot.

Behind the Scenes
Here is Martha Wainwright — clearly having a
fun time at her Flare shoot.

< back
Behind the Scenes
Not only is Martha an extraordinary singer and songwriter — but she was such a delight to work with.
Call us anytime Martha!!

It’s official. I adore Matt Mays and Buck 65 . ADORE! Both guys arrived right on time for our early morning shoot which was impressive considering Matt performed the night before at midnight, and Buck was busy with non-stop rehearsals for his Juno co-hosting duties.

Behind the Scenes
Our photographer had some rather interesting ideas for our shot with Matt Mays and Buck 65.
Not too sure what Andrew was thinking!?
