Jean-Paul Gaultier paid homage to Amy Winehouse on Wednesday, January 25 in the most fashionable way imaginable: as the muse for his spring/summer 2012 couture collection.
Gaultier sent a procession of models down the catwalk styled with beehive hair, heavy black-winged eyeliner and Amy’s trademark beauty spot above their lips. Walking to a soundtrack by the musical diva, the collection drew inspiration from the late star’s instantly recognizable ’50s and ’60s style.
The collection comes two days after the six-month anniversary of Winehouse’s death from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. Her death was mourned on the catwalk, as models returned in the finale in black with coloured embroidered veils covering their faces.–Erin Fitzsimmons
