Last week, Turkish-Cypriot designer Hussein Chalayan premiered his installation film, I am Sad Leyla, at north London’s Lisson Gallery. Similar to his Fall 2010 runway show where sound played a pivotal role, the subject matter of this flick was Turkish pop singer Sertab Erener.
Yesterday, his B Side installation opened at Spring Studios also in North London (running until Oct. 23). This time, featuring a film called Anaesthetics, which depicts situations that Chalayan reportedly told Women’s Wear Daily “possess an underlying violence.” FYI: Fiberglass molds that Chalayan used to create pieces from his Spring 2009 collection, “Inertia”, are also on display.
We can’t wait to see further bursts of creativity with his spring collection, set to be unveiled in Paris next month. —Shanelle Kaul
