Flare talks with Steve Bays from Hot Hot Heat

Flare: What’s your desert-island album?
Steve Bays: “I’m assuming that being stuck on a desert island would also accompany increasing amounts of neurosis and animal-like paranoia, so it would have to be Stan Getz/Astrud Gilberto – “Getz Au-Go-Go” (Verve, 1964). That album always calms me down and puts me in a good mood.”

F: What’s the one item you can’t leave home without?
S.B.: “Well other than the obvious things, like clothes and keys to get back in to my home, I can’t leave without some sort of notepad. I like to write down lyrics or words that I like as soon as I think of them. I don’t usually ever refer back to it, but it keeps me thinking.”

F: What’s your biggest fashion pet peeve?
S.B.: “Fake holes in jeans… and t-shirts that say Sexy.”

F: What’s your most prized material possession?
S.B.: “I have a guitar with a speaker built in to it… it sounds awful but I’m definitely [hooked] on it.”

F: What’s the coolest place in Canada you have ever been to?
S.B.: “Thunder Bay is the coolest place in Canada because they have the most Tim Horton’s per capita of any city.”
