Given her sartorial choices of late, Helena Bonham Carter, Oscar Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in the cinematic gem “The King’s Speech”, has developed a high profile reputation as a red carpet rebel. It’s really not so much the dresses that are to blame, but instead the accessories, hair and makeup that are, well, envelope-pushing. It sometimes seems as though she is thumbing her nose at the perfect frocks, and impeccable hair and makeup of her colleagues. And all that individualism is turning her into the coolest kid at the party. But hodgepodge as her choices sometimes appear, this morning I got a little insight that makes me believe her looks are every bit as well calculated as her stunning on-screen performances. What, you say, tipped me off? It’s all in the eyes. While seated in a makeup chair in a suite at the Four Seasons Hotel, I gave my face over to eyelash-Queen-to-the-stars, and kre-at beauty founder, Taylor Babaian, and in exchange she shared with me a little Bonham Carter insight. It seems the London, England-born actress has a penchant for lashes. Eyelashes that is. “She likes to wear individuals,” said Babaian while expertly applying a strip of the flirty strands to my lids. Yes, Cathy Highland, Bonham Carter’s makeup artist, is never without them when the red carpet comes calling her A-list client. It is an inalienable truth that a lady who lashes out, is a lady who cares about her appearance. And that is how I learned the truth about Bonham Carter.
