It was wizards vs. vampires at the MTV Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, August 7. To the disappointment of Twi-hards everywhere, Hogwarts graduates largely swept the surfboards: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 took Choice Sci-Fi Fantasy Movie. The bigger upset, however, was Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson’s win over RPatz and KStew for best liplock; we can only imagine how sulky Stewart looked at the end of the night.
But the golden couple of the night was definitely Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, who snagged his-and-hers Choice Hottie Awards. The two also took home boards for their music: the Biebs won Choice Male Artist, while his main squeeze won Choice Group for her band, Selena Gomez & The Scene.
The only semi-surprise of the night was the appreciation for the decidedly adult Black Swan, which won Choice Drama and Choice Actress (Drama) for its star, Natalie Portman. Is teenage taste becoming slightly more sophisticated? Maybe. Or, considering the movie’s Natalie Portman-Mila Kunis pair-up, teenage boys might be responsible for that one. —Allison Friedman
