HBO’s Girls star Jemima Kirke doesn’t grab your attention with her effortless looks, her paintings will. The actress currently has a group show at New York City’s Half Gallery.
“Hearsay” opened Wednesday night and will continue to show until October 24th. It includes intimate portraits done by the 27-year-old Kirke as well as the work of two other artists.
Kirke, who plays the free spirited Jessa, graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008 and has had a handful of art shows in New York since then. The painter currently lives in Brooklyn with her lawyer husband and their two-year-old daughter, and is pregnant with their second child.
According to a Wall Street Journal profile of the actress, she still considers painting her “9-to-5” job despite the success of Girls. In fact, Kirke’s acting career only began after school friend (and the mastermind behind Girls) Lena Dunham asked her to appear in Dunham’s film, Tiny Furniture.
Kirke also includes tattoo-ing as a hobby. The Yorkshire terrier on Dunham’s ribcage was courtesy of Kirke.—Portia Baladad
