French actor and the face of Bleu de Chanel, Gaspard Ulliel, has reportedly won the role of Yves Saint Laurent in an upcoming biopic of the legendary designer.
A rep from the film’s studio, the Paris-based Films Distribution, told screendaily.com that Ulliel won the part after a “huge audition process.” Ulliel has previously starred in the popular film anthology, Paris, je t’aime, Hannibal Rising and a handful of French projects.
The French-language film will be directed Bertrand Bonello and will center on the designer’s career during the 1960s and ’70s. Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2013.
Meanwhile, another YSL biopic is also in the works. Directed by Jalil Lespert, Lespert’s version will focus on Saint Laurent’s relationship with longtime business and romantic partner Pierre Bergé. Bergé has already given this project his stamp of approval. A release date has not been announced nor have any actors been attached to the project. —Portia Baladad
