GRAMMYs Acceptance Speech: Draft No. 1

Album of the Year? I was not expecting this, y’all. [Cue wind machine crew.]

First of all, I have to thank my sister, Solange, who’s had my back since H‐town, whether it’s Photoshopping thigh gaps into my bikini photos or filling those awkward elevator silences. And I wouldn’t be here today if I hadn’t started out riding with my Destiny’s Child sisters, Kelly and… Melissa???

My mother, Tina—I love you. You told me I could be whoever I wanted, so long as I was wearing House of Deréon.

And finally, to my partner, my collaborator, my friend, my surfbort: Jay, you are my everything, although my lawyers have advised me to say you are only half of my everything.

This award is dedicated to my vision of a world where we all woke up like this. And I hope y’all like it turnt up, because as I gave this speech, I released my most surprising surprise album yet, automatically downloaded onto your microwaves. Thank you.

Beyoncé’s self-titled album is nominated for Album of the Year.
