FLARE Was There: Fashion Cares 25
On Sunday night, Elton John and his cast of celebrity friends landed in
Toronto to celebrate the last Fashion Cares, an event that builds
HIV/AIDS awareness and benefits the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT).
After 25 years of camp fashion, gallons of glitter and of course a
philanthropic mission, the curtain closed for the last time but not
without a bang.
Hosted by Dean and Dan Catan of Canadian label DSquared2 and supermodel
Linda Evangelista, Elton John welcomed a top roster of his favourite
performers to celebrate in style. Scissor Sisters, Janelle Monáe and Sky
Ferreira performed electric sets while a cast of Canadian all-stars
joined in for a medley of hits. Kreesha Turner, Shawn Desman, Keisha
Chanté, Jully Black, Divine Brown, Jarvis Church and more were amongst
the performers who stepped on stage. The one and only Elton John closed
out the show with his greatest hits including Your Song, Tiny Dancer,
Rocket Man and Crocodile Rock.
The evening, which included an intimate dinner beforehand, was led and
organized by co-chairs David Furnish and Michael King, honorary chaise
Jeanne Beker, John Demsey and Frank Giustra and creative director
Phillip Ing.
