British actress Sienna Miller has just been cast in The Girl, a film about Alfred Hitchcock’s sexual obsession with screen star, Tippi Hedren. The ’60s siren became one in a string of blondes cast by Hitchcock, including Kim Novak and Grace Kelly, when she was spotted in a soft-drink commercial in 1961. At the time Hedren was half Hitchcock’s age. She went on to star in The Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964), but walked out on her seven-year contract with the director when he reportedly threatened to have her blacklisted in Hollywood if she would not agree to sleep with him.
Look-a-like Sienna Miller is the perfect choice to star in the drama, which goes into production with the cooperation of 81-year-old Hedren. Inspired by Donald Spoto’s biography, Spellbound by Beauty, The Girl begins filming this week in South Africa, and will first air next year on BBC 2 in the UK. [Art Info and Instyle UK]
Update: First images from the set of HBO’s “The Girl” have been released starring Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren and Toby Jones as the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. HBO will air the film on October 20.
