Chic and sexy Eva Mendes is the latest celeb to take on a designer title. The actress will collaborate with American retailer New York & Company to create a new fashion line, Eva by Eva Mendes, which will be sold in the retailer’s boutiques across the U.S. Featuring daywear, eveningwear and accessories—with an emphasis on dresses—the collection is a big step for NY & C, who usually focus on workwear and trousers.

The union came about when NY & C asked their consumers which celebrity they most aspired to be. The answer was no big surprise. Who doesn’t admire the gorgeous curvaceous Mendes, who’s usually spotted wearing Christian Dior, Lanvin and Prada on the red carpet?

“We want her influence in the collection,” Greg Scott, chief executive officer of NY & C told WWD. “She has amazing red carpet style and also has a very unique style off the red carpet. She has a real sense of self, which will help us in terms of the design aesthetic. When we look at her, she really is confident.” Mendes is going to play a huge role in the creative process of the collection, with each design needing her approval. The line inspired by female empowerment, will also incorporate some vintage influences.

“I love anything that winks to yesteryear,” Mendes told WWD. “You have to find what works for you. Quite a few times I’ve worn turban-like accessories. In this day and age where everybody has a stylist, I appreciate the kind of woman who steps out of the box. I love feeling like an individual. I want to share all these little tips with women.”
