It was the East Coast versus the West Coast on this week’s episode of Canada’s Best Beauty Talent. The four remaining hair and makeup artists, Jenna and Caylee versus Marcia and Matthew, had to create beauty and hair looks worthy of the red carpet.

On the judging panel this week was model host Coco Rocha, FLARE editor-in-chief Lisa Tant, Hello! Canada editor-in-chief Alison Eastwood, L’Oreal Paris makeup artist Eddie Malter and hairstylist Eric Del Monaco.

First up, the West Coasters, Jenna and Caylee, decided to do a young Hollywood look. Jenna did a fresh face with a blue smoky eye, while Caylee did an intricate wavy updo with knots in the hair. Tant liked that the group didn’t go bright and called the look “unexpected.” Rocha thought the eyes weren’t bright enough, though, and that the eyes looked tired (literally).

The east coasters, Marcia and Matthew, went the opposite route with an old Hollywood look. Marcia did a glossy red lip, quintessential of that era, with flushed cheeks and smoky eyes, while Matthew kept the hair down with a classic wave. Rocha thought the model looked too pale, while Malter liked that the makeup complemented the dress. Tant thought the hair lacked volume and a certain “wazoo-sex-kitten-whhha” that we see on stars like Angelina Jolie. Eastwood, though, thought the look screamed Anne Hathaway.

In the end – wait for it! – nobody went home. In typical cliffhanger fashion, we won’t find out which hair and makeup artist is being eliminated until next week. While Matthew’s look was pretty, I think Caylee’s updo earned her the right to stay. Matt played it safe in probably the most important round of the entire competition, while Caylee took a risk – you snooze, you lose, Matt. Jenna and Marcia were both technically on-point, but in the end Marcia’s look reigns supreme. Her bold lip made a statement while Jenna’s look made the model stand out for a different reason – she looked exhausted. The two remaining contestants, although winners in their own category, will compete for the grand prize of a swanky trip to Paris. – Christian Allaire
