Monday night showed the results of Sunday night’s competition where 12 of Canada’s most talented hair and makeup artists competed for the title of Canada’s Best Beauty Talent and a trip to Paris. Only two teams competed this episode–each team consisting of one makeup artist and one hair stylist–and were paired based on their own physical appearance. The most-stylish hair stylist, Patrick, was teamed with the least-stylish makeup artist, Lea, while the least-stylish hair stylist, Isabelle, was partnered with the most-stylish makeup artist, Cait.
Patrick and Lea went for a Marie Antoinette-meets-J.Lo look that was more costume than editorial (they are trying to win the prize of being featured in FLARE, HELLO! Canada, and LouLou magazine after all). Red-haired Isabelle and Cait’s effortless summer look featured flawless, sun-kissed makeup by Cait, but less than stellar hair from Isabelle that looked more windblown than intentional.
The judges were unanimous in saying that Patrick and Lea’s high-glam look was overdone and Patrick was chastised for creating the hairstyle before he even knew the challenge. The judges were kinder to Isabelle and Cait’s summer look, praising Cait for her skills and making the models’ skin glow, while Isabelle got criticized for the front of the models’ hair not being as finished as the back of her hair. The judges thought if there were curls in the front as well as the back, then the hairstyle would have been more balanced and flattered the models face more.
Needless to say Isabelle got through with Cait’s phenomenal makeup skills and the judges decided Patrick and Lea’s time to shine was over. They were the first duo kicked out of the competition.
Tune in to Canada’s Best Beauty Talent next Sunday, April 15 at 9:10 EST to see all of the contestants compete in the next challenge.–Erin Fitzsimmons
