Why We’re Stoked About the Heathers Remake and You Should Be Too

American broadcaster TV Land is developing a present-day series based on the ’80s cult film, and it sounds freaking great

There are some remakes we can get behind (Ghostbusters FTW) and others, not so much (hard pass on the new Lethal Weapon series). Add Heathers to the first category: the killer-clique classic is being remade for television by American broadcaster TV Land—with some seriously awesome updates.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, among the new Heathers are: a) a black lesbian, b) a guy named Heath who identifies as gender-queer, and c) a woman described as having “the body of a Martha Dumptruck.” And it’s being directed by Leslye Headland, the babe behind Bachelorette, which has been called the “meanier, bitchier version of Bridesmaids.”

Suffice to say, this is all VERY PROMISING.
