We're Obsessed: Our Fave Moments From Lip Sync Battle

Season 2 of our not-so-guilty pleasure show is filming now, so we're looking back at the best face-offs so far, and what to expect in 2016

Soooo, who else has been screaming, “Hellloooo from the other siiiidddeee” into their hairbrush and longing for a flip phone? Or maybe you prefer to throw on a puffer coat and shimmy to Hotline Bling in front of the bathroom mirror. Whatever your preference, lip-synching is officially the hottest trend since juicing. Until recently, it was an embarrassing habit one kept to herself, like nail biting or crushing on James Franco. But thanks to Dubsmash and the surprisingly delightful, Twitter-trending Spike show Lip Sync Battle (think high school talent show, but with celebrities), belting out a ballad—minus any actual singing—is now downright encouraged.

Season 2 is filming now and we seriously cannot wait: LL Cool J is back on the mic as the affable MC, and the unimpeachable supermodel/social media boss Chrissy Teigen is still joyfully mixing drinks behind the bar for guests. (She’ll be abstaining from cocktails this year, thanks to a pea in the pod.) Here are our fave battles so far, and a look at what we can expect when Season 2 premieres in 2016 (if the rumours are true). Did somebody say, “Sasha Fierce”?

Anne Hathaway vs. Emily Blunt

Anne Hathaway’s over-the-top Miley impersonation (she literally gave the finger while riding a wrecking ball) is one of LSB’s most viral moments. Leave it to Oscar-winning Anne to go full force with the outfit, choreography and even lipstick choice. It was so spot-on that Emily’s version of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart” went kind of unnoticed. Finally, Anne gets her revenge for all of Emily’s scene-stealing in The Devil Wear’s Prada.

Terrence Howard vs. Taraji P. Henson

Lucious and Cookie had some big expectations for their performances, considering they are the stars of epic musical-drama-turned-pop-culture-phenom Empire. But they delivered, with Terrence strutting his stuff to Rick James’s “Brickhouse” (that wig is something we won’t soon forget) and crooning the classic Boyz II Men tune “I’ll Make Love To You.” Taraji tackled two iconic female artists with Madonna’s “Material Girl” and Mary J. Blige’s “Just Fine.” Oh, and Mary J. actually showed up to help Taraji out. But it was a throwback that really stole the show: Taraji and Terrence teamed up for “Hard Out Here For a Pimp,” a song they performed together years ago for their film Hustle & Flow. What feud?

Abbi Jacobson vs. Illana Glazer

The Broad City babes mixed the right amount of camp into their performances, with Ilana taking on Outkast’s “Hey Ya” (the perfect song to get the crowd pumped) and a chorus-line worthy “It’s Raining Men.” Abbi went for a true showmanship with “The Humpty Dance” and the melodramatic “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.” The audience crowned Glazer the winner, but we have just one more request: rematch!

Big news, you guys! The rumour mill speculates that Beyoncé and Channing Tatum are set to do battle against one another in Season 2—and there might be a surprise twist: BuzzFeed is reporting that Channing will actually go head-to-head against wife, Jenna Dewan, while Beyoncé performs back-up duties for Magic Mike. Queen Bey playing second fiddle? We’ll believe it when we see it.
