A new trailer has been released for The Great Gatsby, making us wish we didn’t have to wait a whole month before the release day (May 10). The movie is already guaranteed to be a 3D visual feast with director Baz Lurhman’s signature bold style and lush cinematography, not to mention costumes by wife and Academy-award winner Catherine Martin. Wardrobe partners include Prada for womenswear, Brooks Brothers for men’s suits and tuxedos and Tiffany’s not only for glamorous jewels, but home decor for the Gatsby East Egg manse. But while we wait to see everything come together on screen, our ears get a tantalizing taste of the soundtrack.
When you think Roaring ’20s, you don’t automatically think rap, right? Luhrman disagrees as he tapped Jay-Z as producer, proving that great taste and talent can span any genre. While the 14-song soundtrack isn’t set to be released until May 7, the almost three-minute long trailer offers a serious taste of the music to come. The album features Beyoncé and Andre 3000’s cover of Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black, as well as tracks from style setters Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine. Other artists added to the mix include will.i.am, Fergie, Gotye and Jack White.
The film, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic tale of love, identity, class and the American dream, stars Tobey Macguire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher, and Leonardo DiCaprio as the enigmatic title character.
