The Bachelor finale starts off with Nick skipping through Finland (a.k.a. the home of Santa Claus, apparently?) with a bunch of elves. Like srsly, why does this scene exist?
Maybe our finale wish—for Nick to be recruited by Santa Claus—will actually come true???
It’s time to meet Nick’s fam—which would be absolutely terrifying because there’s, like, 100 of them. We’re actually shocked The Bachelor flew all 10 (!!) of Nick’s siblings to Finland. The budget for this season must have been YUGE.
First up: Raven. Lucky for her she’s already met his parents and his little sis Bella (who is full-on #TeamRaven).
Raven has a quick chat with Papa Viall, which goes really well and by the end of the convo he says that Raven would be a great addition to their family. AGREED.
Meanwhile, Nick catches up with his mom, who asks the only important question.
And then Raven sits down with Mama Viall (who is killing it in that fur vest, BTW) and she seems just as smitten with Raven as Nick’s dad was.
Overall, Raven made a great impression on Team Viall and we just think she’s the cutest ever and that Nick should pick her.
And now it’s time for Vanessa to meet the family. We predict she’ll be in tears after the first five mins.
Annnndd we were right. Vanessa gets all choked up while telling Nick’s family about their first date and instead of jumping in and saving her, Nick proceeds to sit there and just watch her drown. Nick’s mom finally decides to break the awkward silence and is like, “Nick, you’re such a dick help the girl out here” (but in nicer, more mom-appropriate words). Way to have Vanessa’s back, Nick.
After getting over that v. awkward moment, Vanessa and Nick’s mom have a one-on-one chat, which went fine but was suuuper boring to watch, TBH. And then she ends up having a little cry sesh with Nick’s dad (like father, like son) which was actually a v. cute moment but Papa Viall leaves the convo worried that Vanessa could break Nick’s heart.
Moving on to Vanessa’s final date with Nick: they go horseback riding in the forest, which looks super beautiful and way less cheesy than riding horses on the beach.
K but why is Santa lurking in the trees? This is weird. He’s def trying to recruit Nick.
They reach their destination—a random hut in the woods (a.k.a. Santa’s house?) and Vanessa channels her inner Will Ferrell.
They hang with Santa and his v. fake beard for a bit and then go off to start round 57 of The Adult Convo. Vanessa tells Nick if he picks her because her relationship with him is slightly better than someone else’s, she won’t be comfortable with that. Honestly Vanessa, why did you come on this show?
The excitement from meeting Santa has worn off and Vanessa is back to tears, basically ruining the rest of their afternoon.
Fast-forward to the evening portion of their final date: Vanessa is ready to fire off all her questions and starts with the big one—“Do you feel like you’re ready to propose?” To which Nick responds, “I feel like the week isn’t over yet and I need to get myself ready and get myself there.” That’s def what every women about to be proposed to wants to hear. She starts crying (obviously) and then complains that it feels less romantic because there’s still two women there. OMG VANESSA. That is literally the entire point of this show, are you new?
(Side note: Vanessa admitted during AFR that she had legit never actually seen an entire season of the show and everything makes so much more sense now.)
Nick and Vanessa start making out on the couch but Vanessa’s just low-key balling her eyes out, and the rest of their night is officially ruined.
Moving on to Nick and Raven’s final date: unlike Nick and Vanessa, they srsly need to have some adult convos because they’ve had like none.
They go ice-skating and “Kiss Me” starts playing in the background again (just like the roller-rink date) and their date turns into a full on rom-com (like literally every other date they’ve had). Ugh, k we know it’s going to be Vanessa. But can’t it just be Raven? Their easy going, playful relationship is serious goals and we LOVE watching them together.
After doing some canoodling on the ice (why are they so freaking cute!?) they take off the skates and cuddle up by the fire.
Nick leaves for a quick sec and comes back with three of the cutest husky puppies we’ve ever seen.
Hmmm, is Nick using puppies to distract Raven from having adult convos? Who knew Nick was so sneaky.
Fast-forward past their puppy play date to the night portion of their final date: Raven reassures Nick that there’s no hesitation on her end. And Nick starts showering her with compliments and beautiful speeches, skilfully avoiding the topic of their future. Nick is so sly tonight.
And by the end of the night Raven is 100 percent confident that Nick is going to propose to her. UGH THIS BREAKS OUR HEART. *Insert all the crying emojis ever*
Finally, it’s time for the moment we’ve all been waiting for: Final Rose Ceremony! But first, Nick gets a friendly visit from his good ol’ pal Neil Lane and he picks out a ring (obviously with Vanessa in mind).
Then Nick puts on a fancy suit and heads over to his beautiful Finland proposal podium, where one lonely rose awaits.
The first SUV pulls up (guess Finland is too snowy for limos?) and our stomachs drop to the floor because we obviously know who it is. The door opens and we see the bottom of her blue, sparkly dress. UGH WE KNEW IT. It’s Raven. She gives Nick her prepared speech, and Nick (along with the rest of Bachelor Nation) start crying an actual river. How is Raven the only one holding it together right now?
Nick gives Raven his breakup speech, “I love you but I’m not in love with you” blah blah blah and then walks her out. They hug goodbye, Raven sans jacket (the least Nick could have done was fetch her cape), and Raven gets into the SUV.
*Cue us crying into our wine glasses while watching Raven’s teary limo exit*
So as we all predicted, Nick has chosen Vanessa. BUT while Nick’s getting ready to propose, Vanessa is crying (what else is new?) and questioning whether or not she’ll even accept a proposal from him. Will she actually turn Nick down, leaving him rejected at Final Rose Ceremony for the THIRD time? Chris Harrison did promise us the most dramatic finale ever.
When Vanessa finally shows up to Final Rose Ceremony, Nick pulls her into the biggest hug we’ve ever seen him give and he gets right into his speech—a.k.a proposal.
He gets down on one knee and pulls out the Neil Lane sparkler (why is he crying more than Vanessa?) and asks her to marry him. Vanessa starts crying (finally) and accepts his proposal, and for the first time all season we FINALLY got some sort of feels from this scene.
Nick asks Vanessa if she’ll accept his finally rose, she says yes, and we can’t help but have a smile on our face. Awww, they’re so in love.
And just like Nick and Vanessa are engaged and this nightmare of a season is over!
See you back here in May for GIF by GIF recaps of The Bachelorette!
