We love a “will they, won’t they” romance as much as the next girl, but today we’re celebrating a different kind of on-screen love: the BFF duo. And we don’t mean just any old buds: these gal pals (and a couple platonic guy-girl buds) raise the friendship bar to the next level, running, yelling and even dancing for their besties. Check out our list of badass BFF moments and share with the Charlotte, Ann or Abbi in your life.
Charlotte and Carrie, Sex and the City (2008)
Char might be the prim-est of the SATC clique, but she will throw DOWN for her girls and this scene proves it. Her ferocious embrace of Carrie after Mr. Big stands her up at the alter summons fierce friend love in our hearts. Stand down, Big.
Ann and Leslie, Parks and Recreation (TBH, all seasons)
To anyone who has watched and loved this show, this is the the most obvi BFF entry of them all, but let us live. These textbook TV besties have been #goals basically ever since they first graced our screens in season one. We couldn’t pick just one moment—their love for each other is so unwavering, we’ll be rewatching for life.
Abbi and Ilana, Broad City (season 1, episode 10)
Uh, DUH. This ride-or-die pair built a whole show on the foundation of their totally killer connection. They’re always up to something, but we’ll never forget watching an adrenaline-charged Abbi hauling a seriously swollen Ilana through that restaurant. Bonus BFF points for the hospital bed cuddle sesh that followed.
Max and Penny, Happy Endings (season 3, episode 18)
The whole Happy Endings gang is great (BRB, still crying over its cancellation) but we’ve always had a special soft spot for Max and Penny. When Max set his usual snark aside to ~*~literally~*~ lift post-breakup Penny’s spirits, we can’t say we didn’t shed a tear or 7 million.
Terry, Amy and Gina, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (season 3, episode 9)
This was another tough pick. The whole crew at the nine-nine always have each other’s backs, and that’s what we love about the show. But anything that gets Terry Crews to dance is top in our books, and that he and Amy are doing it to help our queen Gina succeed makes it even better.
Christina and Courtney, The Sweetest Thing (2002)
Okay, technically it was in the name of romance. WHATEV. Forget Peter, the best part of The Sweetest Thing was def Christina and Courtney’s bestie road trip antics—complete with shopping montage. Showing up at a stranger’s wedding for your girl? A+ wing-woman move.
