Who is the Rag & Bone girl? What kinds of characteristics does she exude to wear your clothes?
We have this kind of cute couple going on, the guy and the girl that’s kind of understated, sassy, educated and demure, but still sexy. It’s not high fashion but just really well-made clothes that fit really well and have an edge. Our girl isn’t specific, but someone who appreciates the time and effort and attention to detail that goes into her clothes.

Where do you want to take the label?
We want to be a lifestyle brand, one that’s here for good. We may not necessarily want to be a high fashion brand, but we want to carry on doing what we do and get better at it. We do have aspirations to broaden what we’re doing, we started with accessories and we’re starting a shoe line. If in 40 years time we’re in the same place that Ralph Lauren was in, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Tell us about your new shoes
We’ve done a bit of footwear, like our men’s boots, and this fall season we designed all the women’s shoes on the runway with Manolo Blahnik. That was really exciting! Picture two straight guys having tons of fun at the Manolo Blahnik store—I never ever thought I would say that. But our shoe line probably won’t be like stilettos. It will be a line of men’s and women’s boots… and some more dressy canvas sneakers and that kind of thing. Basic stuff that compliments what we do.

What’s next for Rag & Bone?
We would like to do women’s handbags. We’re just trying to figure out how to do something that’s already not there. Bags inspired by luggage is something that we’ve toyed with. Oh, and Rag & Bone baby, holiday or resort—that’s next.

What would guys be doing if you weren’t doing this?
David: I would be doing something creative and I would be my own boss. I would hate to work for anyone else—I’d be really bad at it. Marcus: I have a fantasy of being a pro golf player at a Beverly Hills Golf and Country Club.
