Fierce-O-Meter: The Week's Most Fearless Females on TV

Flat screen, flat screen on the wall, who was the fiercest of them all? We rank the week in television on a scale of 1 to 5 Beyoncés

For years, our small screens were awash in angsty male antiheros. Dark and tortured Don Draper types who wouldn’t know fierce if it kicked them in the cojones. Lately though, the TV tide seems to be shifting with a surplus of super fly females from surgeons to sorority queen bees. To mark the moment in Grrrrrrl Power, we’re rounding up the most butt-kicking women on the boob tube each week.

Among the 25 women making a play for reality TV stardom (and Bachelor Ben Higgins’ heart) is this US military vet from Florida. Hard to say if BH was more impressed by her record of service or her super-revealing neckline. Either way, she is through to the next round with her dignity intact. More than we can say for certain other rose-hat wearers and women named after fabric.

J-Lo was killing it all over the small screen this week, getting name-checked by Kanye on American Idol and oozing retro glam at the Golden Globes. On her new NBC drama, she plays Harlee Santos (aka Jenny From the Block), a tough NYC cop who isn’t afraid to break the rules—on the beat or in the ring. The scene where she turns a boxing lesson into a make-out session is a master class in fierceness. Her Flashdance style hair will have you chopping out the necks in your sweatshirts.

You’d think the powers that be at the Golden Globes would have known better than to play the “wrap it up” music on Henson, who scored the best actress trophy for her turn as Empire’s take-no-prisoners matriarch Cookie. Her reaction—“I’ve waited 20 years for this, don’t tell me to wrap it up. You’re gonna wait!”—demonstrates the perfect mix of class and sass. Ditto for her custom Stella McCartney.
