Exclusive: When Joe Fresh Met Patti Smith

On February 9, Patti Smith: Camera Solo opens at the Art Gallery of Ontario, marking the first time the groundbreaking songsmith’s artwork will be exhibited in Canada. Smith is admired for tenderly weaving her lived experience into her writing, music and photographs—most notably in Just Kids, her National Book Award–winning memoir about her beginnings in New York and her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The exhibition will consist of Smith’s black and white shots alongside personal objects.
