FLARE: What do you consider when deciding on an outfit for a holiday party? Lauren Collins: Keeping the guest list in mind is very important. For example, you might want to pass on the black mini dress and leopard heels for Bubbi and Zaidy’s Chanukah Party. But it is a perfect look for that holiday get together with your friends.
F: What is the most important factor in deciding whether an outfit is right or not? LC: It’s so important to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. The last thing you want to be thinking about when you are out having fun is “are my jeans too tight?” or “I wonder if my shoes and purse really do match?” Usually, going with your gut instinct is best.
F: What is your favourite formal-wear trend this year? LC: Tights! All colours and patterns. They’re perfect with a mini dress and some seriously stacked heels. This will definitely be my favourite look for the holiday season.
F: How do you stand out from the crowd? LC: Taking risks with your fashion choices will always help you stand out from a crowd. Unexpected colour palette choices or patterns that don’t traditionally “match” are fun to experiment with. You need to make these choices boldy and wear them with confidence.
F: What’s your advice for hair and makeup? LC: I’m not very good at applying complicated, glamourous make up, so keeping it simple is best for me. I have a basic look I trust day to day and for evenings I’ll spice it up with some black eyeliner or a red lip gloss.
F: What’s the most memorable party outfit you’ve ever worn? LC: The Matthew Williamson dress I wore for my first movie premiere was a really special one!
F: What’s the most regrettable formal wear decision you’ve ever made? LC: For the Gemini Awards about three years ago, I decided to go with pants and a fancy top. The whole night I felt ridiculously underdressed so I learned my lesson. Checking the dress code is crucial.
