International pop sensation Justin Bieber failed to impress football fans at the CFL Grey Cup in Toronto Sunday Night.
Asides from the stage-side enthusiastic cheerleaders who were obstructing the crowd’s view by sitting on top of a couple of shoulders, the crowd was relatively luke-warm. The 18-year-old singer was booed after he performed “Boyfriend” and the Nicki Minaj-less “Beauty and the Beast” during the half-time portion of the football league’s championship game.
Not even his outfit of choice seemed that impressive. What looks to be a repeat of his American Music Awards outfit last weekend, Bieber was clad in yet another leather tank top, matching baggy black pants and gold chain.
At least his Grey Cup wardrobe choice didn’t overshadow the event, unlike the overalls he wore when he met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa on Friday. Bieber matched his striped Osh Kosh B’Gosh-like overalls with a white t-shirt and black baseball cap, which he wore backwards.
Many people were unhappy that the pop singer was so casually dressed when he accepted the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from Harper.
The award commemorates Queen Elizabeth’s 60th anniversary on the throne and honours “significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.” The singer was just one of the 60,000 Canadians to receive the medal this year.—Portia Baladad
