The Royal Presents Whit Stillman Screenings and Q&A
Toronto fans can catch Oscar-nominated director in person when he visits the city for the first of The Seventh Art Live Director Series.
Presented by Toronto’s art film house, The Royal, and The Seventh Art video magazine, Whitman’s first movie Metropolitan (1990) will be screened at the film house on December 12 with the director’s third film, 1998’s The Last Days of Disco, the following night. Stillman will be in attendance following both viewings for a conversation and Q&A.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online at ticketpro.ca ($15 for one night or $20 for both) or at the door ($20).
With his hilarious take on America’s prepster, or, as he coined it, the “urban haute bourgeoisie,” Stillman continues to captivate audiences even after a 13-year hiatus. Here’s a stylistic look back on Stillman’s movies before (and after) Gossip Girls’ reign of terror on the Upper East Side.
