Sometimes movie night calls for the goriest, scariest, watch-through-your-fingers film you can find. For those Halloween horror moments, flicks like Human Centipede and Hostel are there when you need them (BYO barf bag). But sometimes you want your spookiness with a side of something deeper: love (The Strangers), empowerment (The Craft) or comedy (Death Becomes Her). Just in time for Halloween, we rounded up 10 of our favourite scary movies that are sure to please the ladies, and ranked their fear factor and girl power ratings. (Plus where to watch ’em!)
The Final Girls (2015)
This is an '80s slasher homage with a serious heart. In fact, rumour has it that senior culture editor Briony Smith (who interviewed one of the film's many Canuck stars, Thomas Middleditch, for our November issue) even shed a tear at the unexpectedly heart-rending horror film. Fear factor: 4/10 Girl power rating: 7/10 Where to watch: The Final Girls is in theatres in most major Canadian cities now.
