Paulina Gretzky’s February Cover Story
Paulina Gretzky is a California girl with Canadian soul. After all, Dad is the Great One, our most celebrated national treasure next to Molson and Hickory Sticks. Having grown up in Los Angeles, Gretzky has set her sights on the entertainment business. For our shoot, we brought her back to Toronto and our city’s theatrical hub, the historical Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre. Here, Canadian old world met the very newness of a woman who is becoming more famous for her social media antics on Instagram and Twitter than she is for being Wayne’s daughter. The elegantly worn theatre, which opened for the first time in 1914, provided apt mise en scène for the World Wide Web–weary starlet role we cast her in to model spring’s tender dresses. This wasn’t Paulina’s first FLARE shoot—she debuted as a model here in 2005. Unless you count her mother’s 1988 feature: Janet Jones, Wayne’s soon-to-be wife, was already four-months pregnant. Three times a cover girl: Now that’s staying power. — Emily Ramshaw
