Here at FLARE we have a serious girl crush on Christina Hendricks, with her gorgeous figure and bee-stung lips. (Not to mention that we’re all obsessed with season six of Mad Men, which marks the return of Christina’s fan-favourite character, spitfire office-manager-turned-partner Joan Harris.) Her signature crimson mane? Just the cherry on top. In fact, Hendricks’ red tresses have a Canadian provenance: she began dying her naturally blond hair scarlet when she was just 10 years old and completely obsessed with Anne of Green Gables.
Hendricks displayed Canuck-level friendliness during our shoot, plus a playful attitude and zero diva behaviour. (Her stylist is her best friend!) Christina and her fiery ’do were completely at home in front of the camera—five Emmy-nominated seasons of sultry scheming had prepared her well for the Sophia Loren–inspired shots. Her languorous movements made even more sense, however, once we considered the perils of period-perfect costuming at her day job—our shoot was blessedly free of her usual pile of mandatory slimming-slash-strangling undergarments. Our cover girl? Absolutely stunning, just the way she is. —Briony Smith
