When: May 10
Where: Milk Studios, New York City
She strolled in wearing her hair in a bun, out tted in standard model-off-duty garb: tank top, skinny jeans, flats, blazer. The 24-year-old was striking, sure, but it wasn’t until Arlenis Sosa unleashed her miles-wide smile that we knew we were in the presence of a world-famous beauty. (As the story goes, she was signed on the spot during her first agency visit, then promptly booked American and Italian Vogue.
The Dominican Republic–born Lancôme face brought laid-back island spirit to the shoot, singing along to a Nicki Minaj track and later twirling about in the pleated black leather Céline skirt, laughing and clapping to the music. Sosa has been shot by Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino and Terry Richardson, so her complete ease in front of a new-to-her (and to FLARE) photographer, Jason Kim, came as no surprise.
Sosa’s spot-on mix of casual and chic has earned her a recurring role on street-style blogs; on-set, she gravitated toward Balenciaga (of course) and a white leather Fendi skirt, making each piece her own with a smile.
On the cover: Arlenis Sosa is wearing a Céline top and skirt and Marni shoes. Photography: Jason Kim. Hair, Wesley O’Meara, The Wall Group; makeup Lora Spiga, Lancôme; nails, Ana-Maria, Minx. Set designer, Shaun Kato-Samuel.
