Hilary Duff’s second novel, which hits shelves today, is just the latest addition to the celebrity literary canon. Are these reads trash or true brilliance? We’ll let you judge based on these fall releases.
1) Devoted: An Elixir Novel by Hilary Duff
Duff has been keeping a low screen profile lately, leaving her time to focus on other projects: her soon-to-be baby, and a series of teen fantasy novels. Devoted, the sequel to last year’s Elixir, was released today. The first book introduced Clea, a well-travelled photojournalist whose mysterious dreams eventually led her to her soulmate, Sage. In the sequel, Sage has been kidnapped—and Clea vows to find him, “in this life or the next.” Intense, much?
2) Modelland, Tyra Banks
Banks’s young adult novel, released last month, sounds like a cross between The Hunger Games and “America’s Next Top Model.” Hopelessly awkward Tookie De La Crème is shocked when she’s invited to Modelland, an elite mountaintop academy where seven lucky girls are transformed each year into iconic models—if they can make it through the grueling Catwalk Corridor and Thigh-High Boot Camp. Rumours of a movie adaptation are already swirling, so bets are on as to which role Tyra snaps up for herself.
3) Dollhouse, Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé Kardashian
In the spirit of thinly fictionalized celebrity tell-alls, the Kardashian sisters are publishing a novel next month that sounds suspiciously familiar (just in case you don’t already know everything about them). Kamille, Kassidy, and Kyle Ramero live a pretty average L.A. life with their mother, stepfather, and stepsiblings. But when one of the sisters becomes a paparazzi-stalked starlet overnight, the whole family finds itself on display in the Hollywood dollhouse. -Allison Friedman
