Are Hollywood and Silicon Valley the new It Couple? All signs point to heart emoji with more and more celebs finding romance in the tech industry. We’re counting down five recent matches made in nerd heaven.
Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel: Think you’re addicted to Snapchat? Miranda Kerr is going to be living with it 24/7. Well at least with Snapchat co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, who at 25 has already made his mark in the social media world (and then some). According to TMZ, they recently bought a $12 million home in Brentwood, California. That’s a lot of flower crown filters.
Emma Watson and William Knight: The actress and feminist activist is much more interested in talking about #heforshe than her relationship with William Knight, a senior manager at software company Medallia. Though he’s 10 years older than her, they share a love of higher learning—Emma graduated from Brown University (with a stint at Oxford) and he’s an alum of Princeton and Columbia Business School. Signs that the relationship is at least semi-serious: he was her +1 at Hamilton and tickets are hard to come by, even for Hermione.
Allison Williams and Ricky Van Veen: Allison Williams grew up in the throes of New York society (her pops is TV newsman Brian Williams), while Ricky co-founded collegehumor.com while he was, yup, in college. The bride wore Oscar de la Renta, Tom Hanks officiated and the guest list included the cast of Girls, Mindy Kaling, Bruce Springsteen, DVF, Katy Perry and John Mayer (a good friend of Ricky’s). Really, it was the dream wedding Marnie should have had.
Stacy Keibler and Jared Pobre: How does one navigate the dating world, post-Clooney? It’s not like handsome, single, villa-owning A-listers are around every corner. Stacy Keibler didn’t take long to rebound from the (then) commitment-shy actor; she married Jared Pobre, founder and CEO of digital ad, gaming and app development firm Future Ads. He might not have a Lake Cuomo hideaway, but he is probably better at syncing an iPhone than George.
Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner: Karlie certainly has the credentials of a supermodel (Vogue cover, former Victoria’s Secret model, high-profile campaigns) but she’s equally passionate about building an empire that includes Karlie’s Kookies (a collaboration with the famed Momofuku Milk Bar), a YouTube channel, and advocating for STEM programs like her Kode with Karlie scholarship for girls 13-18. Joshua Kushner is no slouch, either: Harvard educated, at 30 he’s already a venture capitalist and founder of insurance company Oscar. He also has a connection to the presidential election: his brother Jared is married to Ivanka Trump.
Bonus Track: While we never really know who Serena Williams is dating (remember how she kept us guessing about Drake?), she’s been linked to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian since the fall of 2015. Ohanian may not be mega-rich (Serena far outweighs him in cash flow and fame department), but according to articles in Slate, Forbes, BuzzFeed, and the New York Times, he is an influential if controversial figure in the online world. Reddit is overrun with disturbingly misogynistic and racist content, but Ohanian is a proponent of free speech (leading the lobby against anti-piracy laws) and had a hand in a crowdfunding campaign for Black Girls Code. One thing we do know for sure: he’s a tennis fan.
