The claws are coming out as every diva in Tinseltown is veying for a spot in the highly-anticipated remake of The Great Gatsby. Director Baz Luhrmann is bringing F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic book to the big screen and the competition is fierce. Luhrmann, famous for his eccentric storytelling as the man behind Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet, is searching for the right starlet to play the role of pampered rich girl Daisy Buchanan. Rumour has it that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have been cast as Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway but the verdict is still out on which leading lady will follow in Mia Farrow’s footsteps and score the coveted spot as Daisy.
The selection so far includes Michelle Williams, Blake Lively, Rebecca Hall, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Abbie Cornish and Scarlett Johansson. Speculation swirled earlier this week that Blake Lively was a front-runner when she was spotted dining in New York City with DiCaprio and Luhrmann, but nothing has been confirmed. No matter which starlet lands the part, one thing is certain, Luhrmann will definitely put a contemporary spin on the classic story.
We think that there is a striking resemblance between Mia Farrow and Michelle Williams and that the actress has proven herself capable of taking on the challenge. Who do you think will make the best Daisy?
