Ottawa was a hotbed of activity over the weekend, as the Canadian music industry overtook our nation’s capital for the 2012 Juno Awards. Here were four highlights:
1. Canadian R&B star The Weeknd was spotted at the Chateau Laurier toting a Louis Vuitton travel bag and an ensemble of good-looking crew members.
2. New Artist of the Year and Roots & Traditional Album nominee Lindi Ortega mesmerized the entire room at a party for Ottawa’s city mag, Ottawa Life, at Mambo restaurant.
3. Juno nominee, Joel Zimmerman, better known as electro-house ambassador Deadmau5, conceded that it was a little strange that the Album of the Year award went to Michael Bublé for a Christmas compilation. “It must have been one hell of a Christmas album!” he said.
4. Juno Awards performer K’Naan—who joined Simple Plan onstage for “Summer Paradise”—wasn’t worried about his onstage slip (he just about took a dive on the stage’s staircase). “I don’t worry about that, because it’s OK to stumble sometimes.” We couldn’t agree more.
