Anne Hathaway takes centre stage with a big voice – and short hair! – in the new trailer for Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables.

The versatile actress sings the classic ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ as Fantine, the ever-so doomed heroine of the hit novel-turned-play-turned-film. Never to take the easy way, Hathaway’s singing was reportedly shot live and unedited as well – a rarity in big-budget Hollywood musicals. Her raw performance (and look) personally gave us goose bumps (watch your back, Susan Boyle!).

The cast for the much-anticipated flick includes some big names including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Helena Bonham Carter, Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne. The film opens in theatres December 14. – Christian Allaire
