While she might be a happy newly-wed in real life, Anne Hathaway’s onscreen love life is about to take a turn for the worst. Hathaway has signed on to star as the lowly lead in Mindy Kaling’s romantic comedy The Low Self-Esteem of Lizzie Gillespie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hathaway will reportedly play the female lead who must overcome her insecurities after hearing that the attractive man she’s dating had denied they’re seeing each other.
It’s widely speculated that Kaling will take on a small supporting role in the film even though she’ll be busy with writing and starring in her sitcom, The Mindy Project (Fox recently picked it up for the whole season).
The script, which was co-written by The Office vets Kaling and Brent Forrester, has been in the works for a while now. It was included in 2009’s Black List, a list of the most liked un-produced screenplays of the year as voted by industry insiders.
The light-hearted project will be a change of pace for Hathaway. She can next be spotted as the tragic Fantine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables this December.—Portia Baladad
